Year 1609 the scientist Galileo Galilei directed his telescope towards the sky, an experiment that changed the picture of the world. He saw mountains on the moon, spots on the sun, he followed the phases of the planet Venus and he saw four moons circulating the planet of Jupiter. He realized that Copernicus was right, earth is moving around the sun not vice versa. Galileos way of working laid the foundation to modern natural science.

During the exhibition we will be able to show one of the original telescopes of Galileo. ”That is as close as you get to a Mona Lisa in the history of science.” says Head of Exhibitions Olov Amelin.

The exhibition will be shown until January 17th 2010.

"Galileo's Telescope", curated by Giorgio Strano, has been conceived by the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza in Florence. Read more at the exhibitions web page.
